Qantas Launches In-Flight Recycling Program

SYDNEY, 10 December 2009: Qantas today increased its environmental commitments with the launch of a new domestic onboard recycling program.

Qantas CEO Mr Alan Joyce, said the new inflight recycling initiative builds on the airline’s existing recycling programs and is another step towards in the Qantas Group’s goal of achieving a 25 percent reduction to landfill by 2011.

“At Qantas, sustainability guides everything we do. We are committed to implementing processes and policies that will help protect the environment for generations to come from recycling to providing best practice carbon offsetting facilities.

“Under the new initiative we plan to recycle approximately eight and a half million bottles, cups, tumblers and cans per year from domestic services.

“The inflight recycling program also complements established recycling programs in selected Qantas Clubs in Australia for paper, cardboard and glass.”

Qantas has partnered with Closed Loop Recycling in the development of this onboard recycling program. Closed Loop is an industry leader in recycling solutions and environmentally sustainable packaging.

To support these activities, Qantas has developed a reference page for customers, providing information on the onboard recycling program and other all other environmental initiatives at qantas.com/environment
